English 005: From Pucks to Parliament: Exploring Canadian Culture

In this Teacher Advisor Program freshman seminar, my students focus on Canadian literature, music, film, and history in order to learn more about their enigmatic neighbor to the north. This is also a technology-driven, writing intensive course that has the students writing, blogging, and even podcasting about their new discoveries about Canada. The course includes a mandatory class trip to Ottawa, Canada’s capital, during which we visit Parliament, meet with elected Members of Parliament, tour the National Gallery and Museum of Civilisation, and attend a hockey game.
